Before you start, gather these supplies:
- Exterior: Two buckets, car wash soap (never dish soap), microfiber wash mitt, microfiber drying towels, wheel cleaner, tire shine, clay bar, spray wax
- Interior: Vacuum with attachments, all-purpose interior cleaner, glass cleaner, microfiber cloths, soft-bristle brush, leather conditioner (if applicable), air freshener
Step 1: The Exterior Wash
Start with the wheels — they're the dirtiest part. Spray wheel cleaner on each rim, let it sit for 60 seconds, then scrub with a dedicated wheel brush. Rinse thoroughly.
For the body, use the two-bucket method: one bucket with soapy water, one with clean rinse water. Dip your mitt in the soapy bucket, wash one panel at a time from top to bottom, then rinse the mitt in the clean bucket before reloading with soap. This prevents swirl marks caused by dragging dirt across the paint.
Rinse the entire car with a gentle stream of water (not a high-pressure jet) and dry immediately with a clean microfiber towel to prevent water spots.
Step 2: Clay Bar Treatment
